Healthy Smoothie Recipes

These smoothie recipes use readily available fruit and veggies. All of them take only a few minutes, especially if you have a high-speed blender. Healthy Girlfriend cannot recommend investing in a Vitamix strongly enough!  Smoothie recipes are a breeze to make and much creamier than a regular blender.

Feel free to make substitutions as needed and according to your taste. Beginners will want to start with only a few leafy greens and increase when ready. We do advise adding them to all the smoothies for added fiber, satiability, and minerals. They all make about one quart, but you can double the ingredients for 2 people or when you want to have it for breakfast and lunch (or mid-morning snack.)

One suggestion to keep in mind: If your fruit isn't very sweet, add a little stevia. Our favorite is Stevita brand which comes in a plain powder and in a large variety of flavored liquids. It is a non-coloric sweetener made from the stevia herb. You only need a pinch in the fruit-based recipes.

Quick and Easy Smoothie Recipes

Super Easy Green Smoothie                                                 Delicious Watermelon Cooler

4 leaves Romaine lettuce                                                        4 cups chopped watermelon flesh

2 peeled bananas                                                                  a few leaves fresh mint  

Coconut water (to thin as needed)                                          (or a couple drops mint stevia)

Blend on low speed, then increase until smooth.                       Blend and pour into quart jar

That's it! Drink slowly and chew each mouthful.                            with lid. Shake as needed.

Good Morning Jumpstart                                         Southwestern Sunrise Smoothie

1 lime                                                                                           1 lime

1/2" piece ginger root                                                                   1/2" piece ginger root

1 banana                                                                                      1 orange

1 orange                                                                                       1 cup chopped pineapple

1 mango                                                                                       1 cup coconut water

Small handful of spinach                                                              A sprig of fresh cilantro

Add water or coconut water as you                                              1/2 an avocado

blend to desired consistency.                                                       Blend first 6 ingredients on low

                                                                                                      for a few seconds, then add

                                                                                                      avocado. Taste, and add more

                                                                                                      cilantro if you like.

Lunch on-the-Go Smoothies

These two smoothie recipes are more filling and meal-like. They are great for times when you have to go hours between meals, or for when you just feel like a heavier breakfast. For the Detox Diet, these make a nice, satisfying dinner.

Coconut Berry Shake                                                                 Savory Salad Smoothie

2 cups coconut milk                                                                        1 cup water

1 cup blueberries (or any mix of berries)                                        1 cucumber

1 banana                                                                                         1 handful cherry tomatoes

Small handful of kale or spinach                                                     1 zucchini (optional)

1 scoop protein powder                                                                   1 avocado

1 T flax or chia seed                                                                        Small handful of mixed, baby

Coconut water to thin                                                                      lettuce + a sprig of fresh herbs

Stevia to taste                                                                                 Pinch of sea salt

Blend first 4 ingredients 'til smooth,                                                Blend and adjust herbs and salt

then add powder, seeds, and                                                         according to your liking.

blend on high to incorporate.
